Casting Rahele
I am working on casting Rahele, one of the major figures in the early stages of the novel. Rahele is the private tutor of little Anselino, who has just turned seven. We are in the year 1914 in Tripolitania, the Italian protectorary in today’s Lybia. Rahele is a young man who studied philosophy and is passionate about what he calls “modern theater.”
He was a founding member of the Compagnia dell'Imbuto Confuso during his study years, but he left the group for financial reasons.
We are at the point in the story when the authorial "I" becomes the voice of Rahele. Casting means choosing a character who will embody another character, appropriately matching the voice to be embodied.
