Vitus, thrown into boiling oil

  • … and my teacher Modestus. My father knew nothing about it. When he found out what was going on, he became very angry. He threatened to beat this false faith out of me. So I fled. But the soldiers caught me. By order of Emperor Diocletian, I was sentenced to death and thrown into a cauldron of boiling oil. My faith saved me. My brothers in faith and I emerged from the cauldron unharmed.

Relics that are needed as objects of interaction on stage: colorful socks / bronze shild

Monologue of the saint, derived from the infinitive sequence of the left and right half of the stage:

Left half: break, call, laugh, play, take, expand.

Right half: occupy, get to, seize, pick up, equipped.

    Vitus’s monologue:

Here, the colorful socks are proof that steadfastness in faith strengthens and protects us in all adversity!

They pushed us naked into the boiling oil, only the socks on our feet. This is how they wanted to break our faith!

    Not even the socks burned!

If they want to destroy us, if they call our faith an illusion, a fraud, a diabolical aberration, our faith is our bronze shield.

We laugh in the face of those who would break us.

Now I will show you how to become strong in faith. Take your favorite socks! Maybe the long ones with the red and blue stripes. No, we are not playing! We take the practice of faith very seriously!

Faith is not just hoping for life after death. When we believe, we expand our possibilities in the here and now!

Tie the tops of your socks together. If you want to occupy the kingdom of heaven, do as I say! Only those who believe blindly will get to the place where they see God's glory!

Seize the instruments of faith! Pick up your socks! Now put the two knotted socks around your eyes and knot them again behind your head.

Now you are equipped! Believe blindly and your feet will carry you through all dangers, through all pain, through all sorrow, to where evil cannot harm you.
